Supported Independent Living Services (SIL)

Breakaway’s Supported Independent Living Services and Specialist Disability Accommodation, follows the model of shared accommodation where the people living in the house pay rent, utilities and all of their other living expenses.

With the support of our staff, you make decisions about how the household will run.

Staff are rostered depending on your needs to ensure you are supported to live a good and fulfilling life.

Generally, support will operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, with sleepover staff at night. We will work with you to identify how your support arrangements will look.

Emergency Support

If you have an emergency, please contact the office and we will do our best to support you in a way that will best meet the needs of your family. Support can be provided either in the respite house or in your own home.

Community Participation

Community participation is being actively involved in everyday interactions, events, and opportunities that are of interest to you. This service is for anyone aged 5-65. We offer community participation during the day, evenings and on weekends, whenever suits you.

In-Home Support

Breakaway provides trained workers to come into the family home to support you with whatever is needed. This may include personal care, meals, and medication and/or community access.

We work in partnership with families to identify your needs and how we can best support the whole family unit.

To access our In-Home support you must be at least 5 years of age and be in receipt of individual funding.

Music and Movement

We believe that dance is for everyone and that each individual has character and style to bring. Breakaway’s Music and Movement, including Sausage Sizzle sessions developed from participation in music workshops with Access Arts. From this, it was established that there was a need for this type of activity within the disability sector.

This program has a strong focus on movement and dance with the use of voice and instruments to help with coordination, control and finding the beat.

Who can get involved?

Anyone over the age of 5 years can get involved. This program is structured to teach individuals with a wide range of abilities.
