Breakaway Inc Music & Movement Program Updates

Hi, I'm Joe Presedo, Breakaway's new Lifestyle Program Coordinator. My background is in the visual and performing arts; in London I ran my own graphic design consultancy for twenty years while also working all over Europe as a musician and DJ (and sometimes in Brisbane too!).

After arriving in Australia in 2015, I switched careers and began working in disability support with CPL at Cascade Place.

It was there that I learnt to transfer my skillset to support clients in the visual and performing arts and unlocked my passion for supporting people with disabilities.

I haven't looked back! We'll be continuing to run our amazing Music & Movement group every Wednesday in Deception Bay but we will also be expanding our lifestyle program.

Look out for some new and exciting programs in the very near future. So please watch this space!

NDIS Quality and Safeguards....

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is a new independent agency established to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services.

They will work with NDIS participants, service providers, workers and the community to introduce a new nationally consistent approach so participants can access services and supports that promote choice, control and dignity. For more information on visit NDIS Commission

What about the NDIA?

The NDIA will continue to:

deliver the NDIS—providing individualised plans and support to people with disability, and coordinating service bookings, payments and access to plans for providers handle complaints about the NDIA itself, and participant plans.

The NDIA will also continue to be responsible for the registration and regulation of NDIS providers, until the NDIS Commission begins operating in each state and territory. They will work closely with the NDIA to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone.

what is a support co-ordinator and how can they help me?

A Support Coordinator will support you to understand and implement the funded supports in your plan and link you to community, mainstream and other government services.

A Support Coordinator will focus on supporting you to build skills and direct your life as well as connect you to providers.

Your Support Coordinator will assist you to negotiate with providers about what they will offer you and how much it will cost out of your plan. Support coordinators will ensure service agreements and service bookings are completed. They will help build your ability to exercise choice and control, to coordinate supports and access your local community.

They can also assist you in planning ahead to prepare for your plan review.

Support coordinators will assist you to 'optimise' your plan ensuring that you are getting the most out of your funded supports.

what is plan manager, and how can they help me?

If you choose to be plan-managed, a Plan Manager is funded in your plan and must be an NDIS registered provider.

They claim directly from the budgets in your plan to pay your providers on your behalf.

If you choose to use a Plan Manager, they will:

  • pay your providers for the supports you purchase;

  • help you keep track of your funds;

  • take care of financial reporting for you depending on your circumstances,

  • they can also help you choose your providers.

the funding plan is not sufficient, how do I ask for a review?

If any participant, family member or carer require further assistance with implementation of a plan or plan review,  please contact either your Local Area Coordinator, or the NDIA on

1800 800 110.

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather as is our participants who reside in

They've also been enjoying the cooler weather with outings to the ginger factory and Australia zoo, some retail therapy and going shopping and cooking at home with staff.

Our participants have been taking advantage of the beautiful days and evenings of this time of year . and taking some evening walks around the neighborhood, participating with some house maintenance, and playing music.
