Our gardens are growing
Kate Miller our service leader Community Projects has been spending time with clients and their DSW team to improve the gardens in and around our houses and at Bell Street. Clients are loving getting into the gardens and the positive difference at our sites has been delightful.
The SIL House at Petrie has been working with Kate since January, together they have planted, mulched and beautified the home with lovely colourful flowering plants, the client has engaged in this activity taking instructions well and participating with pride and is eager to show visitors and staff what she has done.
Thanks to everyone involved, it continues to be a positive experience for our client. For those who stop by Bell Street, have you noticed our garden project is growing each week? We have had rain & humidity which our plants love.
A number of our clients, along with Kate and our DSWs have been mulching, planting, popping up signage to share our story, cleaning our donated barbecue, installing two ponds & testing water to get ready for our Native fish coming soon.
We have had lots of positive comments from the community and have bees, butterflies, dragonflies, blue tongued Lizards & magpie mudlarks visiting for a drink.
Short Term Accommodation (Respite)
Now that COVID-19 restrictions are easing the STA has been at capacity. Staff have enjoyed being able to take clients out for lunch on Fridays to Dolphins Club, have outings at Sandgate, BBQs by the beach and even just take clients to have coffee and fish and chips at the beach.
It is great to have our long-standing clients returning and welcoming some new faces. We have been upgrading and refreshing the house, and have an area where clients have art done and done paintings. Virginia, Shannon and the team look forward to seeing clients soon.
Recently a couple of local families donated beautiful blankets for our clients at the STA. Clients have been delighted to have their own blanket and we thank the local ladies who hand made these for their thoughtful generosity.
We continue to stay focused on implementing the Australian Government and Queensland Health advice surrounding COVID-19 compliance and the upcoming rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. Our team will be in touch with our SIL Clients to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine.

From 1 March all paperwork will be co-branded Breakaway and Multicap.
Breakaway Management Committee, Thanks
Breakaway Management Committee would like to thank all our current and past supporters, clients, families and staff for the years of support. The decision to merge was not one the Management Committee took lightly or easily. At the centre of the decision was ensuring that client service and care was not compromised and that valued staff were retained.
The decision to merge ensured that Breakaway continued to grow and could withstand the upcoming headwinds as a result of the changes in the regulatory environment. We are excited about the new opportunities that will be available for clients with an expanded offering and diversity of service that Multicap is able to offer.
Multicap was the right fit because of the shared objectives, vision and approach to care by ensuring that our families are at the centre of care and service delivery.
Update from Chief Operating Officer

I look forward to the future growth we can achieve with this partnership. We are also delighted that the Breakaway name will remain on the Peninsula as we contribute to making a positive difference in our clients lives.
